Mission 17 is a newer apartment building located close to Stampede Park in the Mission area of Calgary. Easy walking distance to trendy 17th Avenue and 4 Street.
The building offers one and two bedroom units that have higher-end fixtures and finishes. The cabinets are modern in the kitchen and bathroom and the kitchens come with fridge/freezer, stove/oven, microwave and dishwasher. All units also include in-suite laundry which is a combined washer/dryer located in the kitchen. The apartments are on the small side and do not have any built-in storage, but instead have free-standing tall wardrobes which can be moved if required. There are no balconies and the windows only have a small section that opens.
There are no building amenities other than a small outside patio area with BBQ’s. There is underground, heated parking in the building, but there may be a waitlist. Additional parking is located in a public lot, 4 blocks away, or street parking is an option.

New management company switched the payment process over and overcharged for rent. Now my account is overdrawn. Piss poor management and impossible to get a hold of anyone

My partner and I have been renting here for three years now, and many things have changed in that time. The old building management company (Strategic) did a fairly decent job of ensuring the building was presentable, even if the suites themselves are not the greatest. The new company is doing a very poor job of maintaining cleanliness despite the current plague, thus we are moving as soon as possible.
Breakdown of the Mission 17 living experience:
-suites are compact
There is a very minimalist, functional style to the layout of each apartment. Limited counter space and cupboards means we regularly make shopping decisions based on what can physically fit in the kitchen, therefore, no stand mixer for me. :'( Be aware of the small/medium sized washer and that it takes incredibly long to dry items.
-the summer heat is intense
Since the addition of ceiling fans in the bedrooms the apartments have a little more airflow, but it is still not enough to overcome the discomfort in warmer weather. Residents would try to make use of AC in the positively pressured hallways by leaving their doors open, but alas, the new company does not cool the hallways enough for this to be an effective method of making the apartments more comfortable. We’ve observed that most people leave after one summer in the hotbox.
-days can be loud. Nights can be louder.
AHS EMS Station 3 is just down the road, so don’t be surprised at the wail of an ambulance. A dog daycare is located below the apartments, so barking is also commonplace. 17th Ave is also home to quite a few obnoxious drunkards who will make their presence known with a 2 am shouting match.
Tips for those currently living at Mission 17:
-Turn on your bathroom and stove fan when you open your door (increase pressure differential between the apartment and hallway)
-Buy a grill cleaning brush if you plan to use the barbecues in the common area. Once upon a time there were communal brushes and everyone would clean up after each use, but those are unlikely to return under the new management.
-Remember your doggie bags and dispose of pet waste directly in the garbage room, because the new management doesn’t seem to bother with ensuring the outside bins are regularly emptied, nor do they refill the bag dispenser.
-Keep your hands to yourself in common areas, because the lovely cleaning ladies that used to come thrice a week and did a brilliant job have been replaced with a person who simply vacuums once weekly. The fresh scent is gone, and the pet stains are rapidly getting out of control. I wouldn’t trust the buttons.
TLDR the building, location, and suites are ehh. New management sucks. If you are only renting for the winter, have at’er.

Living here 6 months, they have changed owners 2 times now and I can never get a hold of anyone for any issues. There is only 1 operating window and therefore ZERO airflow in the apartment. When I signed my lease I was told I am not allowed to put in an air conditioner in my unit, which means I get to roast in here. The garbage room is always filled and totally disgusting, you can smell the garbage when you’re in the stairwell. There’s broken eggs on the floor, and just piles of shit everywhere. Speaking of piles of shit, many people in the building do not pick up their dog’s shit in the common outside area. The area itself is quite loud with motorcycles and cars ripping up and down the street at all hours of the night. In short, F*** THIS PLACE.

Very noisey area, building isnt well equipped to handle the area or even the volume of people living there. I would only recommend living here if your never going to be there. Not a place for settling.
